Emily Jenkins (Renée Zellweger) is a social worker assigned to a case involving a 10-year-old girl named Lillith Sullivan (Jodelle Ferland), whose parents seem to be abusive. After rescuing Lillith from a murder attempt by her parents, Emily decides to foster her temporarily. However, after taking her in, disturbing and deadly events begin to occur. Emily slowly discovers that Lillith is not an ordinary child — she harbors a dark and supernatural secret.
