The film follows a group of young New Yorkers during a going-away party for their friend Rob. The celebration is abruptly interrupted by a massive explosion and blackout, followed by reports of a monstrous creature attacking the city.

The story unfolds entirely through the lens of a handheld camcorder, captured by one of the friends, Hud, as they attempt to escape the chaos, rescue a trapped friend, and survive the terrifying night. The monster remains mostly unseen for much of the movie, heightening suspense and fear.
