Set in post-war Scotland, My Childhood portrays the bleak and poverty-stricken early life of a young boy named Jamie, based on Bill Douglas’s own experiences growing up in a small mining town in Newcraighall near Edinburgh. Jamie lives with his grandmother and older half-brother in desperate conditions, without love or stability. He befriends a German POW (Prisoner of War), adding a glimmer of connection to an otherwise harsh life.
