Set in the near future, Resident Evil follows Alice (Milla Jovovich), a woman who wakes up with amnesia in a mansion, only to be dragged into a secret underground facility called The Hive, run by the mysterious Umbrella Corporation.

A deadly virus has been released within The Hive, turning the staff into zombies and mutating other creatures. A military team is sent in to shut down the AI supercomputer Red Queen and contain the outbreak.

As they go deeper into the facility, the team encounters hordes of undead, mutant dogs, and a terrifying bio-weapon known as the Licker. Alice begins to recover her memories and learns of a conspiracy involving the virus’s creation.
