The Children of Huang Shi is a powerful historical drama based on the true story of George Hogg, a British journalist who, during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945), rescues a group of orphaned children and leads them over treacherous terrain to safety.

Arriving in China to cover the war, Hogg is horrified by the brutality of the conflict. He ends up in Huang Shi, where he becomes the reluctant caretaker of sixty war orphans. With the help of a courageous nurse (Lee Pearson), a Chinese resistance fighter (Chen Hansheng), and a local merchant (Mrs. Wang), he transforms the orphanage into a functioning haven.

When danger closes in again, Hogg leads the children on a dangerous 700-mile journey over the snow-covered mountains of western China to avoid Japanese occupation.
