Caroline is hired to look after Ben, who has suffered a stroke and is mostly unresponsive. The house is eerie and filled with secrets, including strange symbols and locked rooms. Caroline soon learns about hoodoo — a form of folk magic practiced in the region — and begins to uncover disturbing truths about the house’s past and its inhabitants.

As Caroline digs deeper, she discovers a supernatural conspiracy involving the previous owners and the use of hoodoo to manipulate life and death. The “skeleton key” itself is a literal key that opens all the doors in the house, symbolizing her unlocking the dark secrets within.
