Three backpackers — Liz, Kristy, and Ben — are on a road trip through the Australian outback to visit Wolf Creek Crater, a remote tourist spot. After exploring the crater, they return to find their car won't start. Stranded and with no phone signal, they are relieved when a seemingly friendly local named Mick Taylor offers help, towing them to his isolated camp.

However, once night falls, things take a horrifying turn.

• Liz wakes up bound and discovers Mick is torturing Kristy.

• She tries to rescue her friend and escape, but Mick proves to be an expert tracker and hunter.

• One by one, the group is stalked, terrorized, and hunted in the unforgiving wilderness.

The film ends on a bleak note, with Ben being the only one found alive — but with no evidence to convict Mick. A final title card says that Mick was never found and remains at large.
